Photo trip fulfills childhood desire
I grew up watching John Wayne westerns, so I’ve always been captivated by the wide-open spaces and rock formations of Monument Valley where many of these movies were shot.
Visiting the iconic area has long been on my bucket list — I can now say I’ve been there and done that.
And it didn’t disappoint.
Monument Valley is simply amazing. The first view, pictured above, is of the Mittens and Merrick Butte. It’s jaw dropping. The rock formations reach to the sky (the shortest is more than 800 feet tall), and you can see for miles.
Understanding the scale of the buttes is difficult looking at photos. It quickly comes into focus when vehicles drive along the base of the formations. The image below shows cars that look like ants on the road snaking through Monument Valley.
The trip also includes visits to Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, and there have been some amazing photos captured. I’ll be sharing those out and writing other blogs about my experiences in these beautiful, scenic public lands.
